What is Voltaren Emulgel?
The Voltaren Emulgel product, not just available over the counter, contains a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) called diclofenac. Diclofenac works to inhibit prostaglandins, substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation.[76]By reducing their effects, diclofenac helps to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.[77]

Application of Voltaren Emulgel to the skin
Voltaren Emulgel is topical treatment, which means that you apply it to the skin over the affected area. It works by pooling diclofenac on the surface of the skin, the medicine then penetrates the underlying tissues, targeting the inflamed tissues (e.g. around the joint to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and speed recovery)[29] to relieve pain, decrease swelling and support the recovery process.[77]
- Voltaren Emulgel should be rubbed gently into the skin. Depending on the size of the affected site to be treated 2-4g (a circular shaped mass approximately 2.0 - 2.5cm in diameter) should be applied 3 - 4 times a day.
After application, the hands should be washed unless they are the site being treated. The duration of treatment depends on the indication and the response obtained. It is recommended that patients should consult their doctor if the condition does not improve or worsens within 7 days of starting treatment.
